Spring and 17. of May in Norway

Spring is coming back It has its one charm by being able to go skiing in March and April right outside Trondheim in Bymarka and at the same time being able to enjoy nice sunny days on the sea. The temperature is still fresh but enjoyable. Besides all the work and exercising a must is to bake nice dark bread that feels like normal bread from middle Europe, which is one thing I’m missing from home here in Norway.

May hiking in Bymarka and long days Well, the weather is dynamic in Trondheim and either someone accepts that quickly or you have to deal with it when it comes. With that in mind, we planned a hike into Bymarka and we did not get wet but the paths were still soaked from the weather of the previous days. Still, we had fun which is the most important part.

Winter and Skiing

Winter and Skiing The cold temperatures around Trondheim further led to clear skis. My flatmate encouraged me to try cross-country skiing and after the first two times, I started to like it. Also a few days later the department organized a skiing event for Ph.D.’s which resulted in finding more like-minded people at the department. Finally, we ended up on the highest peek in the region with a colleague who had his first day on ski ever.

Winter is coming

Winter and Knödel The temperature around Trondheim cooled down to 0 and below constantly, and with the sun so low, it turned the surrounding into a winter wonderland. So what to do in such conditions: hiking, running and cross-country skiing, what else. I even went out with a colleague who wanted to try hiking. Unfortunately, it is not typically where he comes from, and the temperate is much higher, but he enjoyed it.

Running, Cooking, Aurora

Cooking, running, aurora With my time in Norway, I got into running. Running and going to the gym are everyday sports activities for the locals. Therefore, I upgraded my running set-up to just the watch and some sport in-ear headphones. No need for a smartphone anymore. What can you do with a nice fresh salmon? Cook it with honey, lime, and garlic to get an excellent sweet and spicy taste.
